My First of Many Liver Tests -Staying on Trikafta

  • by

Have you ever been in love and you’re on top of the world? You see the world differently. You’re excited. Things could not be better. Then that relationship ends. This is only a metaphor is I am not referring to my 17-year amazing marriage to Andrea, however; I’m concerned about losing something very special to me – my health.

I’m currently sitting in my car after giving a vial of blood at Emory Healthcare in Dunwoody. This is no ordinary blood test. This one determines if I can continue to breathe easy or if I have to go back to the struggle. This one tests my liver and as long as everything is well then I can continue taking Trikafta as liver issues is one of the major side effects of the drug.

This drug has been absolutely amazing for me. I can run further and easier. I’m not afraid to laugh or wake up in the middle of the night with the fear of a coughing attack. This drug has literally changed my life. I do not want to give it up.

I will be doing quarterly tests this year and then an annual test to make sure Trikafta is not negatively affecting my liver. This is the first quarterly liver test I have done so I have no idea if or how much this drug has affected my liver. I have done a little bit of research and know that at least two of the big symptoms are two things that I am not dealing with which are looking yellow in my eyes (jaundice) or having brown urine so those are both positives.

I will keep everyone updated with the results. I’m not ready for this beautiful relationship to end.

Live your dreams and love your life.
